*First Emergency Case in Israel from Abroad Since Pandemic Outbreak
Sheba Medical Center performed a complex heart surgery on a ten-day old Syrian infant who was flown to Israel from Cyprus. The infant arrived at Sheba with his father, a Syrian refugee currently residing in Cyprus. The father has been reported as saying that he has ‘complete faith’ in Sheba’s medical team.
“This emergency heart surgery marked the first time that Sheba received an emergency case from another country since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and is largely due to our close cooperation with Cyprus,” said Dr. Afek, Deputy Dir. General of Sheba Medical Center. “We at Sheba are doing everything we can to help save the precious life of this baby boy who suffers from a rare congenital heart defect.”
